Welocme to 3rd Grade!
Welcome to Room 26!
Get Ready to Start Your Engines!
Let’s get off to a fast start with some basic information about what you and your child can expect in this coming year.
In 3rd grade we will:
1. Read for 20 minutes every night/parents will write minutes and sign in the agenda
2. Parents will read and sign agenda every day (we get prize tickets when you do!)
3. Students will bring home a spelling/vocab assignment every Monday with lessons that will be returned on Tuesday and Thursday. These are graded so it's very important to make sure they are completed and turned in on time.
4. Students will practice Math Facts every night for 10 minutes. We will start with basic addition and subtraction and move to multiplication later in the year.
5. Most of our work will be completed in school time. Occassionally we will have homework besides our daily reading and math every night.
It is so important for your child to practice his/her math and reading skills with you every night. Reading and math should both be done with the parent, not alone. It's fun to have them read a page and then you read a page. This practice shows them how important reading is to you, too! Have them help you read a recipe to you as you cook. This will hit reading and math practice. Math practice with flash cards is a great tool. You can buy flash cards at the dollar stores or make them yourself with 3x5 index cards. Have your child help make them with you for a little extra practice! Sneak in math when every you can. For example: "We are going to Twin Falls. It is 19 miles from our house. We have gone 6 miles. How many more miles will we travel before we reach Twin?"
If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at school or email me and together we will help your child have the best 3rd grade year that we can!
