Holding on to the Positive Fall Vibes

October has certainly kept us busy at Buhl High School! We are officially in the thick of mid-semester, and there is no shortage of exciting things happening in our building and throughout the district.

At the district level, we have been busy advocating for our upcoming levy and working through the strategic planning process. This has been a valuable opportunity to gather feedback from our students, staff, families, and community members as we continue looking for ways to improve and grow as a district.

Meanwhile, our fall sports are giving us plenty to celebrate! As new members of the 3A conference, our athletes have stepped up to the challenge and experienced some incredible successes. We recently sent our volleyball team off to Lewiston for the State Tournament, and our cross country runners are preparing for their own state competition on Halloween. Our football team is also heading into playoffs this week with the exciting advantage of playing at home!

Beyond their athletic accomplishments, I am especially proud of how our student-athletes continue to prioritize academics. We have seen strong eligibility rates and solid grades across our teams, with our cross country athletes being particularly impressive. It is always rewarding to see students succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Our seniors have also been hard at work on their Senior Projects, and we are already seeing some wonderful results. Kathryn Higbee and Rose Machado recently hosted a "Senior" Citizen Prom, which was a tremendous success! Tavion Lara and Maximo Canchola are also organizing our annual Día de los Muertos celebration on the evening of our home football playoff game. Community members are encouraged to stop by, enjoy some free food, and then head over to cheer on our football team. Looking ahead to November, Jacek Rosenberg will be hosting a Veterans Day assembly as his Senior Project, another great opportunity for our community to come together and support our students.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming Idaho State Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield to Buhl High School this month. We were excited to showcase our Extended Resource Room and Screen-Printing class, giving her a glimpse of some of the unique opportunities we offer our students. Needless to say, she was impressed!

Of course, anyone who works in education knows that October can be a challenging month. The excitement of the new school year has settled, schedules are packed, and both students and staff are feeling the mid-semester fatigue. However, I continue to be incredibly grateful for the staff we have at Buhl High School. No matter what each day brings, they show up, step up, and do what is best for our students. Their dedication certainly does not go unnoticed.

As we wrap up the final days of October, one of my favorite months of the year, I am feeling especially proud of our school and community. There is so much to celebrate, and I look forward to seeing what November brings!

Go Buhl!
