BHS Principal Letter - October
Fall Spirit is Alive and Well
Fall is officially in full swing at Buhl High School, and it has been a busy and exciting month!
We recently wrapped up Homecoming Week, and although we didn’t come away with all the wins we hoped for on the athletics side, I don’t think I could have been more proud of
our students. From the moment I walked into the elaborately decorated halls Monday morning until I left the dance Saturday night, the energy and school spirit were incredible.
Homecoming is truly a magical week for our students, and I try not to forget that. For us adults, it can be easy to get caught up in schedules, supervision, games, and everything that goes into making the week happen. For our students, though, these are memories they will carry with them long after they leave Buhl High School. Seeing so many students participate, dress up, cheer each other on, and simply enjoy being together made the entire week worthwhile.
I have also loved spending time at our fall sporting events. Soccer recently celebrated an epic Senior Night at Bowers Field, where we had a huge group of seniors bid farewell to their final regular season at home. I am incredibly proud of those students—not only for what they have accomplished as athletes, but for the sportsmanship and character they have shown while representing Buhl High School.
Some of my favorite moments this fall, however, have happened during the regular school day. I make it a priority to be in classrooms daily, and I continue to be impressed by what I see.
Recently, that meant stepping slightly outside my comfort zone and joining a student in his
welding cubby. I put on all the appropriate protective gear—although I can't say I felt
particularly protected—and watched him work while he explained what he was doing. I walked away having learned something myself.
Those opportunities are one of the best parts of my job. Whether I am in a welding shop, an
English classroom, a science lab, or somewhere else in our building, I continue to see incredible rigor and learning taking place. I am blown away by the content knowledge of our teachers and, more importantly, their ability to pass that knowledge along to our students.
There is plenty more ahead. Parent-teacher conferences are just a couple of weeks away, Senior Projects are underway, fall sports will be wrapping up before we know it, and our fall band and choir concert is quickly approaching.
While the warm weather sticks around a little longer, I am looking forward to a few more
evenings cuddled up on the sidelines at Bowers Field—and soon enough, a few evenings tucked into the auditorium enjoying our fall band/choir concert.
It continues to be a great time to be at Buhl High School, and I am proud to be a part of it.
Go Buhl!
