BHS Grading Procedures

BHS Grading Procedures Banner Image

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and students not physically attending classes in our schools, it is important that we provide flexibility for our students and their families as they navigate distance learning. At the same time, we find it necessary to provide our students and their families with information about the student’s progress. Please rest assured that we will continue to work through any questions or concerns that come about because of these necessary decisions. If you have any questions whatsoever, do not hesitate to call or email.

  • Third-quarter grades were finalized prior to schools being closed for an extended period of time.

  • Teachers will continue to grade assignments, projects, and tests. Teachers will continue to put points/percentage based grades into the gradebook. These grades will be based on effort and quality of work. Teachers understand that these are extraordinary times and will make every effort to be flexible and understanding as a student may be dealing with extenuating circumstances such as connectivity issues or helping care for siblings. This being said, students must put forth effort on their assignments in order for teachers to provide grades.

  • Fourth-quarter grades will be pass/fail grades, except for dual credit classes which require a letter grade for the college credit. Fourth-quarter grades that are 60% and above will be passing and grades below 60% will be failing.

  • Second-semester grades will be a letter grade. This letter grade will be based in part on the student’s third-quarter letter grade in combination with the effort and quality of work the student has put forth during the fourth-quarter. This will provide students who struggled during the third-quarter an opportunity to raise their overall semester grade. As long as students are making progress and handing in assignments, students’ second-semester grades cannot be more than one letter grade below their third-quarter grades.
